Video Art Samplings

My audiovisual pieces are the culmination of dedicated yet ephemeral performances as a VJ; they embody the experimental, the underground; and, the refuge found in community - the safety of identity expression that nightlife can offer to queer and gender non-conforming individuals (such as myself). Each work a love letter; a celebration; a revel/ry in/of remix, texture, color, movement, and sound.

Wolf Moon (excerpt)

Honoring those that run with wild and who howl forth frozen nights, the first full moon of the new year is referred to as the Wolf Moon. I reflect much on celestial bodies and that which is under their purview; such as water and cycles. This work embodies such fascinations; inspired by the journeys (be they inner or outer) that the seemingly endless dark winter nights prompt. Yet, there will always be a new dawn; a new light; and a new bloom, just around the corner.

Premiered as part of Sima Festival in Terrace, British Columbia - January 21st, 2023. Harmonizing with Winter: Movement Meditation Work.

As Above, So Below culminates in five parts, exploring the reflections, isolation, community, and empathy journeyed throughout the pandemic. 🜁░S░Y░L░P░H░🜁 opens this piece. Whether we’re simply floating by or soaring to new planes, we share the same air; something instinctive like breathing made so apparent things we take for granted.

For SCORE, the exhibition of the PILOTENKUECHE Online Residency, artists interpreted the score of a fellow resident. This allowed for collaboration despite the two being in different parts of the world. My piece focuses on the process of video editing and the manipulation of time, analyzing the idea of motion whether forward or backward, prompted by a lovely written score by fellow artist Catherin Schoeberl. What is a VJ?

Short for video jockey, a VJ is someone who - similar to how a deejay mixes music - mixes video and visual content. Often, this content is either projected or shown on screens (whether vintage or contemporary.) VJing is an act of performance, one that responds to music and crowd; everchanging and ephemeral. As an extension of my video art and visual art practice, I perform as a VJ in nightlife under the name slimebubble. Feel free to email/dm me to inquire about booking for your events or parties.
